Since Mr. Christie established John J. Christie & Associates Consulting Engineers in 1974, the firm has performed MEP design of in excess of ten billion dollars of new construction and renovation in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and four other states.
Mr. Christie has over 40 years of vast experience in consulting engineering covering all engineering disciplines. Prior to founding the firm, he was a plant engineer on the Howard University Division of Physical Facilities and also served on the D.C. Building Permit Department. He was Chairman of the D.C. Board of Professional Engineering Registration for 12 years. His eminent expertise is in the design of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems; Construction Administration; Construction Management; project scheduling, and cost control. He has personally served as Design Engineer, Project Manager, and/or Principal in Charge of in excess of 500 projects which have included virtually every type of urban building, including public schools, airports, rapid rails facilities, university campus facilities, and historic renovation.
His career has covered all phases of professional practice for both new construction and renovation through which he has gained a wealth of experience. In: (1) Condition inspection of existing systems and equipment; (2) development of optional approaches to HVAC (CAV and VAV Systems) based upon life cycle costing (LLC); (3) energy conservation; (4) Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS) with Direct Digital Controls (DDC), and Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) Systems; and (5) Building Automation Systems; and (6) facilities maintenance.
His unique and significant experience is in engineering management, fast track design build, cost and schedule, control of projects, and in advising clients on cost effective strategies and solutions for the design of HVAC and electrical systems.
