John J. Christie and Associates, P.C. (JJCA) was founded in Washington, D.C. firm in 1974 as an MBE/DBE Consulting Engineering firm to offer consulting engineering services to the public and private sectors. Having over 40 years of career Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design experience as well as Facilities Management, John J. Christie is able to provide clients with the unique additional perspective of central plant operations and maintenance, energy conservation, sustainable design strategies, and life cycle costing. John J. Christie is a respected member of the American Consulting Engineers Council (ACEC) and for 12 years had the honor of serving as Chairman of the Professional Engineering Registration Board of the District of Columbia. He also is a member of the D.C. Construction Codes Coordinating Board.
JJCA has broad experience in both renovation and new construction contracts as both a prime and a sub consultant to architects on behalf of the Federal Government, Department of Defense, and municipal, county, and state governments in virtually every type of major urban building. At least twenty percent of our business over the years has been focused on performing open-end task order contracts including recent office building modernization for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Our contracts on behalf of the Government of the District of Columbia have involved large projects for D.C. Office of Property Management (OPM), Water and Sewer Authority (WASA), D.C. Department of Public Works, D.C. Libraries, D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development, D.C. Department of Transportation, and D.C. Department of Public Schools.
During the nineties, the firm’s business significantly expanded with the award of large MEP prime contracts in Washington, D.C. such as Union Station Historic Restoration, (Benjamin Thompson, Architects) Martin Luther King Library Restoration, followed by the Ronald Reagan International Cultural Trade Center (Federal Triangle) Building (2nd largest GSA-owned office building in the U.S.) (Pei Cobb Freed), the RonaldReagan Washington National Airport Terminal (Caesar Pelli), Blue Plains Waste Water Treatment Plant electrical modernization (WASA), the MCI sports arena (Ellerbe Becket), and the Washington Convention Center (TVS). During this period, the firm was also awarded the coveted engineering design of the Korean War Memorial on the National Mall.
JJCA has achieved a continuous and successful record of performance of sub consultant prime MEP engineering services including facilities condition assessments to large, nationally respected architectural firms for major A/E contracts with NAVFAC; USAF; Government of the District of Columbia; Smithsonian Institutes; WASA; Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (MWAA); Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA); Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA); U.S. Navy: GSA; Department of Labor; Maryland Department of General Services; City of Baltimore; City of Richmond; and over 18 Universities in five states.
